Principal's Report
It’s hard to believe how quickly the Term has flown by! Our students have been working incredibly hard, and as always, a lot happens at Eastwood Public School. Since my last newsletter, the past four weeks have been no exception!
We had a magical time during the Book Parade, where students and staff transformed into their favourite book characters, all in line with the theme “Reading is Magic.” It truly was a magical day, with costumes that brought stories to life. A huge thank you to our teachers for their enthusiasm in making the parade such a delightful event.
Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students have also been bending and flexing their way to good health with Fit Futures, getting active and embracing fitness. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 students ventured out to the Great Aussie Bush Camp, where they spent time building resilience and enjoying outdoor activities. I want to extend a special thank you to the teachers who so generously gave their time away from their families to ensure our students had an unforgettable experience. Your dedication is deeply appreciated.
Our Kindergarten Expo was another exciting event, as we welcomed our newest members to Eastwood Public School. The excitement on their faces was contagious—our future learners are more than ready to start their journey at big school.
I also had the privilege of being part of the audience at the Ryde School Spectacular, where our students once again dazzled the crowd with a beautiful ballet performance. A big thank you to the teachers who supported our dancers and ensured their success on stage. It was an absolute joy to witness.
We can’t forget the K-2 Athletics Carnival, where our future Cathy Freemans and Usain Bolts showed off their athletic prowess. Whether they were running, jumping or racing for that gold medal, the spirit of competition was alive and well. Thank you to the K-2 teachers for organising such a fun-filled day for all.
On top of all that excitement, we had the SRC Disco where the students danced the night away, showing off their best moves. And let’s not forget the Year 6 Mini Fete. Our budding entrepreneurs outdid themselves, organising a fantastic day filled with food, fun activities, and, of course, the ever-popular sponge throwing and putt-putt golf. What a brilliant day it was—I’m still drying off from the sponge toss!
I was also fortunate enough to attend the Primary Proms at Town Hall, where our choir, with their sweet siren voices, entranced the audience. It was a great performance and I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the teachers who worked tirelessly with our choir to make the event such a success.
None of these incredible events would have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our wonderful teachers here at Eastwood Public. Their hard work, devotion and passion for our students truly shine through in everything you do and for that, I am incredibly grateful.
As we wrap up Term 3, I’d like to take a moment to thank our wonderful school community for your unwavering support. Your involvement and encouragement have made this term so special for our students. I wish you all a fantastic, relaxing holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for Term 4!
Thank you for making Eastwood Public such a vibrant and special place for our students to learn and grow!
Eastwood Public School Facebook
Survey
As stated in the last section, we do an incredible number of activities, performances and events at Eastwood Public School. As a proud public educator, I’m pleased we can offer such a wide range of opportunities for students to participate in.
Next Term, I will be sending home a survey asking parents a few questions regarding our extracurricular activities, including dance, sport, discos, performances and more. This survey will guide the school’s planning for 2025, helping us assess how many events and activities we should offer. I understand that with cost-of-living pressures and busy family schedules, we might be cramming the calendar or imposing too many costs. Please keep an eye out for this survey sometime next Term, as your feedback will be invaluable in shaping our future events.
New Build
We are thrilled to announce that early next term, after four long years, we will finally be moving into Eastwood Public School’s brand-new building. By the middle of Week 2, Year 5 and 6 students will be settling into their new learning space, and I can’t express how exciting this is for our school community. This state-of-the-art facility represents a major milestone in our journey that will provide our students with an incredible environment to learn, grow and thrive.
The new build looks absolutely amazing and it will position Eastwood Public School at the forefront of education, both now and in the future. With modern classrooms and innovative spaces designed to foster collaboration and creativity, we are all incredibly excited about the possibilities this new space will offer our students and staff. The future is bright at Eastwood.
Excellence in the Arts
We are excited to announce that our whole-school performance will take place at The Concourse in Chatswood on Wednesday, November 20. Every single child at Eastwood Public School will be taking the stage in what will undoubtedly be a memorable event. From dazzling costumes to fantastic performances, it’s going to be a celebration of our students' talents and hard work. This is a huge milestone for our school and we can’t wait to share this incredible experience with our families and community. It’s shaping up to be a spectacular evening that you won’t want to miss.
We understand that initially limiting tickets to one per family in the first round may be disappointing for some, and we truly appreciate your understanding. This is our first whole-school performance, and we want to ensure every family has the opportunity to witness this event. As soon as we have an idea of remaining ticket availability, we will hold a second round where families can purchase additional tickets until they are sold out. While the venue is smaller than we’d like, it was the best option available and we’re committed to keeping costs as manageable as possible. Rest assured, if this event is as successful as we anticipate, we are aiming for a larger venue next time. We’re also exploring ways to stream the performance online and we’re hopeful we can make this accessible for extended family and friends who can’t attend in person. Thank you for your patience and support as we make this exciting event happen.
Summer Uniform and Uniform Shop
In Term 4, students will be expected to wear their summer uniforms, so it might be a good idea over the break to check if they still fit your child. As we all know, these little ones tend to grow faster than we can keep up with. If the sleeves are looking a little shorter or the buttons are working overtime, it might be time to visit the school’s website and purchase a new uniform.
On that note, the uniform shop will be relocating to A Block over the holidays as the demountables are being removed from the site. We’re excited about this move, which will make the shop more accessible for families in the future.
Kindergarten Enrolments - 2025
If your child has already turned 5 this year or will be turning 5 before 31 July 2025, they are eligible to start school next year. We would appreciate if parents of our local area and of siblings of currently enrolled students could submit their applications as soon as possible. Please let your friends and family know that the process for enrolment for next year is underway.

Kinder matters - KC
This term has flown by! KC had a fantastic time learning and wrapping up the term with an exciting celebration. Thank you to the Year 6 students for hosting such a successful Mini Fete – we all had an amazing time! Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday break!
Stage 1 happenings - 2C
Throughout this term, 2C students have participated in weekly gymnastics lessons. During these sessions, they have been building stronger balancing skills, improving their core strength on beams, wedges and high bars, learning fundamental movement skills and demonstrating confidence and coordination. They have also used their collaborative skills when engaging in rhythmic gymnastics using ribbons, hoops and starves to create compositions with their peers. These activities have not only helped develop 2C's broad range of skills, but they have also found them fun, active and expressive. 2C have been excited every Tuesday for their next gymnastics lesson.
Stage 2 happenings - 4L
Last week 4L showcased our engineering skills in a Design and Technologies project focused on the unit of forces. We began by planning our bridge designs, carefully considering how to balance compression and tension forces to create strong and stable structures. Using popsicle sticks, tape, and paper, we constructed sturdy bases, added vertical and diagonal supports, and secured decks to distribute weight evenly.
After building, we tested our bridges with books and dictionaries, reinforcing weak spots as needed. The result? Successful bridges that held multiple dictionaries! This project highlighted our creativity, teamwork, and understanding of key engineering concepts like forces, load-bearing, and structural stability. Well done 4L, for embracing the challenge and building such impressive bridges.
Stage 3 happenings - 6R
6R have been working on Free Verse Poetry which has been a focus of Term 3's novel "Worse Things".
Enjoy some of 6R's free verse poetry. Some are definition poems, while others are from their experiences at camp.
Year 6 Mini Fete
The Year 6 mini fete was held on Wednesday 25th September and was a huge success. In total there were 28 stalls run by the students, including food, craft and games. All the students worked tirelessly throughout the day, to provide an enjoyable experience for K-5 students, and should be very proud of themselves. Thank you so much for all the support of K-5 students, parents and staff which ultimately made this day such a success. We hope you all enjoyed the mini fete for 2024!
Excellence in the Arts: Whole-School Concert on 20 November
We are thrilled to announce our upcoming "Excellence in the Arts" whole-school concert, which will take place on 20 November at the Chatswood Concourse. This special event is an opportunity for our students to showcase the skills and talents they have been developing throughout the year in their music lessons.
Every student has been hard at work practising and perfecting their performance piece, and they are eager to share their progress with you. In addition to class performances, the concert will feature special presentations from our ballet group and cultural language groups, highlighting the diversity and creativity within our school community.
We look forward to celebrating the arts together and seeing our students shine on stage. Be sure to mark your calendars for this exciting event!
SRC News
Monday night’s Disco Fever was a blast! Everyone rushed into the hall, excited for the countdown from Mr. Kammerer. With the lights off, glow sticks illuminated the space as pulsating music filled the air. Students danced wildly, showcasing their best moves in a dazzling display of fluorescent colours. For Year 6, it was a bittersweet celebration, marking the end of an era before heading to high school. Snacking, singing, and games highlighted the evening, with glow sticks transformed into caps, bracelets, and headbands. As the night ended, Year 3 to Year 6 students expressed their disappointment, wishing it could last longer. This disco was a huge success, leaving us with unforgettable memories of friendship and fun. Thank you, Eastwood!

Korean Update
Year 2 Korean students have been exploring the topic of school life this term.
They read a picture book titled “Good Friends” and participated in group discussions to analyse the characters’ personalities and the qualities of a good friend.
For their writing activity, the students drew pictures and wrote about their best friends, explaining why they chose them.
The students enjoyed reflecting on the qualities that define a good friend while expressing their thoughts about their best friends in writing.
Ballet
On Monday 16th September, the senior ballet group performed at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Ryde Schools Performing Arts Festival. On Friday 20th September, the junior ballet group performed at the Seymour Centre as part of the State Dance Festival.
Primary Proms - Junior Choir
What a brilliant night it was last night at the Sydney Town Hall on a cold and wet night! Our Primary Proms choir were spectacular and all of our hard work paid off as they sang with other primary schools from around NSW. They sounded beautiful and did Eastwood very proud. Thank you to all of the parents – we know it was a long day/night and we hope you enjoyed the concert as much as we did. Thank you also to Mr Kammerer, Ms Koumi (choir assistant extraordinaire) and Mrs Morrow for attending. Miss Poole – your help has been invaluable this year.
Thank you, Mrs Hudson.
Big Mob Day
On Monday Lachlan M from 3K attended Mob Day. He walked on country and learnt about Aboriginal culture. Students went on a walk about through sacred sites, and learnt to paint in ochre, as well as throw boomerangs. It was a wonderful day out in the sunshine!
Sport
PSSA
This Semester of Winter sport has come to an end with our two Junior netball teams making it through to the finals rounds!!
This was the first year of mixed netball teams and it was so fantastic to see our Junior mixed team make it to the semis. Unfortunately, things didn’t go their way on the day with a nailbiter of a game ending in a score of 5-7 to WRPS. It was such a fantastic effort and we are so proud of our Mixed team for the sportsmanship and skill shown throughout the entire competition.
Our junior girls team were back in the Grand Final again for the second year in a row and played a fantastic game coming away as runners up against REPS.
Well done to all our Winter PSSA teams. The behaviour, respect and sporting skills was at an all time high and was another successful season for EPS.
We will start the Summer competition in week 1 of Term 4 and continue our rounds of Tee ball, softball, volleyball, Newcombe ball and cricket.
Have a safe and active holiday break!

PSSA coordinator
Sydney North Regional Athletics Championships
CONGRATULAIONS to all our athletes who represented Ryde Zone this week at the Sydney North Regional Athletics Championships.Sydney North is one of the biggest and strongest school sporting regions in NSW so our Eastwood students were up against some VERY tough competition and did themselves and the school proud.Joshua, Linarh and Dora all ran very well in each of their 100m age races. Clara ran a strong race in the 11yrs 1500m, which is a hard race to run. Iris was a reserve for the Shot Put and after a late call up, performed very well, to her credit, with some last minute training. Both Audrey and Caleb showed how they benefitted from practising their technique in training. Audrey, after 2 fouls in the Junior Girls Long Jump, was able to adjust her runup and finished in the top 8 – a great demonstration of resilience and of looking to find a solution when things don’t work.Caleb threw the Shot far enough to finish in 3rd position in the Senior Boys Shot Put. He learnt a lot from seeing other throwers in action and hopefully how he can now continue to improve his own technique. The 3rd place means he has now qualified for the NSW State Primary Schools Championships to be held at Sydney Olympic Park next term. WELL DONE, Caleb!!This year was the biggest team Eastwood has had represent the school as part of the Ryde zone team at Regionals for many, many years – 7 individual athletes. It was a GREAT effort and all 7 athletes should be proud of their efforts!!
