Principal's Report
Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you had a wonderful holiday, filled with rest and relaxation. It's great to see our students returning to school full of enthusiasm and we hope you had the chance to enjoy some outdoor activities and spend time with friends and family. We hope the break provided a much-needed rest and that everyone is ready to go.
Seeing the student’s faces as they entered the school the first day of school was fantastic. It was wonderful to witness the warmth and happiness as the students greeted friends they hadn't seen for two weeks.
The start of the term has been fantastic, with students quickly getting back into the swing of things. It's impressive to see how seamlessly everyone has transitioned from the break to the classroom.
Students have shown great enthusiasm and readiness to tackle new challenges, and it's evident that they are eager to engage with their work and extracurricular activities.
Our teachers and staff have been equally enthusiastic, ensuring that the learning environment is welcoming and supportive. The collaborative spirit among students and the positive energy in our school are truly amazing. We look forward to building on this strong start and continuing to support each student's academic and personal growth throughout the term.
A Busy Term
This term will be very busy with a variety of fantastic activities for our school community. We are excited about the upcoming Astronomy Night, Open Day, Swim School, and several excursions and incursions. These events are great opportunities for our students to learn, explore and have fun together.
We look forward to seeing our students and families participate in these activities and enjoy the experiences they offer. With so many engaging events planned, this term promises to be filled with memorable moments and community spirit. Let's work together to make the most of this exciting term ahead.
I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the teachers and staff at Eastwood Public School for their dedication and hard work in making sure our students experience all the great activities planned for Term 3. Their commitment goes beyond day-to-day teaching, as they consistently strive to create an engaging and enriching environment for our students. From organising special events to planning excursions and incursions, their efforts are truly commendable.
We are especially grateful for their willingness to donate their recess and lunch times to run extra-curricular activities. This dedication ensures that our students have access to a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. Their selfless contributions significantly enhance the educational experience for all our students and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated team.
I would like to extend my thanks to our wonderful P&C, who consistently assist the school in running big events. Their support is invaluable and greatly enhances the experiences of our students and the entire community. Whether it's organising activities, helping with logistics, or providing resources, their contributions make a significant difference. They are always in need of more volunteers, so if you can spare some time, please consider assisting where you can. Your help would be greatly appreciated and will contribute to the success of our school events.
Early Arrivals - Gates open at 8.40am
I am writing to express my concern regarding the large number of students being left at the school gate before 8:40 a.m. Please be aware that there are no teachers on duty before this time, and I am concerned for the safety of students left unattended. If students are left at the gate before 8:40 a.m., the school will contact parents and request that they either collect their child or wait with them until school begins. If this becomes a recurring issue, we will have no choice but to discuss the matter further with the parents involved. Your cooperation in ensuring that your children arrive at school from 8:40 a.m. onwards is greatly appreciated and essential for their safety.
Late Arrivals - Lessons begin at 9.10am
The expectation is that all students arrive at school on time, before 9:10 am. A parent SHOULD accompany the child to the front office if the child is late. At the beginning of Term 3, we will be closely monitoring the situation, and any student who is continually late may receive a phone call. If a pattern emerges, the Home and School Liaison Officer (HSLO) will be called to investigate.
We understand it's cold, but arriving late to school causes significant disruptions to the student's learning experience. Missing the introductions of lessons makes it challenging for students to catch up with the rest of the class. This can lead to gaps in understanding and hinder academic progress. To ensure all students start their day on the right foot, the Senior Executive will be at the gates from 9:10 am each morning starting from Term 3 to monitor late arrivals. Our goal is to support every student in having a successful and uninterrupted educational journey.
Most late arrivals are marked as ‘Unjustified Absences’ and are recorded on the student’s ‘Progress Report’, semesterly.
New Build
We are thrilled to report that the new build at Eastwood Public School is progressing rapidly. The internal work is nearly finished, and the external facade is looking impressive. The builders are now waiting on the arrival of the gold louvers, which will be the final piece of the construction. Once these are installed, the building will be complete and ready for use.
We are excited to announce that students will be moving into the new building in Term 4. This is a significant milestone for our school, and we can’t wait to share this fantastic new space with our students and staff. To give you a glimpse of the progress, we will be posting pictures in our next newsletter. Stay tuned for more updates!
Kindergarten Enrolments - 2025
If your child has already turned 5 this year or will be turning 5 before 31 July 2025, they are eligible to start school next year. There are many benefits to your child reading daily at home and even more benefits when a parent is there to support. It has a positive influence on their performance at school, their confidence, their increased motivation and their social interactions, just to name a few. 10 minutes per day is all it takes. So here are a few ideas on how you can help, no matter what grade your child is in.

The school is also pleased to welcome Dr Cameron Edmond, a lecturer in game development at Macquarie University. Dr Edmond is kindly donating his time to talk to our Stage 3 students about his job and give some insights into what goes on behind the scenes in the game development field.
It will be a great week of learning, curiosity and fun!
Kindergarten Matters - KE
What an exciting start to the term for ES1!
ES1 has kicked off the term with a flurry of activity! During the first week back, our students were excited to see their peers and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the new activities in the Walker Room. They were also enthusiastic participants in the Fit Futures program, where they worked on enhancing their gymnastic skills.
The excitement continued the following Monday as Kindergarten celebrated a huge milestone, 100 days of school! The celebration featured a delightful teddy bear picnic and a variety of creative activities, all of which the students thoroughly enjoyed.
The adventures didn't stop there. Kindergarten embarked on their first excursion to Sydney Zoo, and it was an unforgettable experience. The students were thrilled to see the amazing animals and loved the hands-on interactions with various small creatures at the zoo.
This term has been action-packed, and there's still much more to come! We're looking forward to Open Day in Week 3, where we invite you to step into our classrooms and witness the wonderful learning experiences we engage in daily.
The ES1 team would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support from parents throughout the year thus far. Thank you for being an essential part of our community!
Stage 1 Happenings - 2B
This fortnight in English, 2B have been learning about perspective and argument. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading our mentor text, 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs'. In this story we hear a different version of the story we all know, this time told from the wolf's perspective. Can we really trust a wolf?
While learning about different perspectives and arguments, some of our fluency texts have incorporated different versions of the traditional Three Little Pigs story through Reader's Theatre. We have taken turns performing our scripts for the class, focusing on our accuracy and expression.
In writing, 2B students are investigative reporters for 'The 2B Times' and we are learning to construct effective paragraphs with persuasive language and wordplay, to be able to write our own newspaper headline and article at the end of this week. We even held a press conference with the wolf during a hot-seat activity. Students took turns taking on the role of the wolf and answering questions that our student reporters had thought of. Will we be agreeing with the poor little pigs or the innocent, framed wolf? Grab the next issue of The 2B Times to read all about it!
Stage 2 Happenings - 4G
4G has had a busy start to Term 3. In science, we are learning about forces so we ventured outside to test different ways to use force to move a balloon.
In mathematics we are learning about the attributes of 3D objects. We practised drawing 3D models from different views.
Stage 3 Happenings - 6 H
6H has been experimenting with different styles of drawing using pencils and shading with oil pastels.
Symbolism is a strong theme in our English text Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief and refers to many different types of flowers throughout the novel. We used oil pastels and practised shading to create different flowers.
Additionally, the class have enjoyed challenging themselves to draw these one-perspective square drawings.
Languages
Mandarin
The Mandarin Language Teachers and students have been tirelessly rehearsing for our Open Day performance next week. Both Mandarin and Korean groups will be performing during this display. This will be after the Recess Open Day Picnic starting after the Lion Dragon Dance at 11.35 with the official concert starting at 12.00. The Performance this year is an outdoor event in C Playground.
Korean
Our Korean students have also been rehearsing in preparation for next weeks concert. The Korean items will be presented as part of the combined language performance in C playground, starting a 12.00 midday.
Debating News
Our Year 6 debating team have been enjoying some fantastic success lately and are one win away from a perfect group stage record and a place in the knockout finals of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Here is an update on their recent home and away debates.
Round 1
On Monday 1/7, our Year 6 debaters faced Denistone East Public School in the first round of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. It was a closely contested argument, with the topic ‘That we should not use computers or devices in primary school classrooms’ being voted for by both teams. We won the coin toss and our team chose the negative side. Despite some strong arguments from our very worthy opponents, our Year 6 team emerged victorious! It was a fantastic effort from our debaters, who did our school proud
Round 2
Our Year 6 debaters were winners again on Wednesday 24/7 in our first away debate against opponents Ryde Public School. The topic was 'Teachers should swap classes daily instead of the end of each year' and we were the negative team. Another great effort from our team!
Round 3
Our undefeated Year 6 debaters came out winners again on Monday 29/7, in an extremely hard-fought debate with Ermington Public School. The topic was 'That all cleaning and gardening job at school should be done by students’' and we were the negative team. Both teams put forward high quality arguments. Great work again from these legends!
Library
We are excited to tell you that we are having a Book Fair in week 3 of this term.
The Fair will be open to parents and students August 5 to August 9. The Library will be open each morning from 8.40 to 9.10am and the afternoon 3.10pm to 3.40pm. The Book Fair will also be running all day during our Education Week Open Day.
All students will attend the fair during their Library lessons and will be given a wish list which they will bring home and discuss with you. The school will only accept payment by digital means. i.e. no cash will be taken. You are able to make an online pre-payment as an alternative if you are unable to attend.
There will be a wide range of reading material and some stationary to buy. Once stationary items have sold out, they will not be replaced.
Every endeavour will be made to supply your children with the items they have ordered.
We hope you all enjoy the fair.
