LAST DAY OF TERM |
Principal's Report
WELCOME
Winter has finally arrived, and the weather is getting cooler. Just a friendly reminder to make sure all school jumpers and jackets are clearly labelled with your child’s name. We've had a few parents mention that their child has lost some items, even though they were labelled, and these items haven't been found in the 'Lost Property' tub or the Front Office.
Please remember not to take items from the 'Lost Property' tub if they have another child's name on them. Several parents have mentioned that they have various items of the school uniform, only for them to go missing. If you do find an item of clothing with another child’s name on it, please return it to the Front Office.
Thank you for your cooperation.
P&C NEEDS YOU!
The P&C plays a crucial role at our school, and they need our support to continue their amazing work. The P&C represents the parents' voice, with members of our community generously giving their time to help guide the school's future.
Last year, the P&C donated an incredible $155,000 to Eastwood Public School. This generosity helped fund:
· Employment of a Speech Pathologist
· Purchasing new technology
· Purchasing K-2 fixed equipment
· Teacher resources
· Extra assistance for students in need
· Year 6 Farewell
· Beautification of our school
We have sent an email to all families with information and payment options for you to make a donation to the P&C. If you can, please consider contributing. Every bit helps, and your support is deeply appreciated by everyone involved.
Thank you for all you do to make our school a wonderful place!
SCHOOL COLOUR RUN
We are excited to remind you about the upcoming School Colour Run, a fantastic fundraising event organised by our wonderful P&C. So far, we have raised around $21,000, which is $17,000 less than last year.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The funds raised will go towards new equipment for our 3-6 students, which will be placed in front of the new BUILD once it's completed. This equipment will cost $250,000, so as you can see, we still have a long way to go!
Please support this great cause by helping your child get sponsors or by sponsoring them yourself. Every contribution brings us closer to our goal and makes a big difference for our school community.
Thank you for your continued support.
Reports
Semester 1 reports will be available on the SENTRAL Parent Portal from 4:00pm on Thursday July 4.
The school uses the A to E grade scale summarises the standard (or quality) of achievement associated with each grade.
The scale describes:
- the depth of knowledge and understanding and
- the range of skills that students working at that standard typically show.
Grades are given for individual achievement. Students will get the grade that best matches the standard of their achievement.
Grade | Description |
A | The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations. |
B | The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations. |
C | The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills. |
D | The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills. |
E | The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in some of the processes and skills. |
Teachers make professional on-balance judgements to decide which grade description best matches the standards their students have achieved at a particular point-in-time.
Staffing
We've had a few staffing changes recently at Eastwood Public. Mrs. Peggy Leung, one of our beloved Cultural Language Teachers, has retired. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Peggy for her many years of dedicated service and wish her all the best in her retirement. Mr. Tim Glanville has taken over teaching 2O, which will now be known as 2G. Mrs. Josie Pellicane has moved on to explore new career opportunities, and we wish her all the best on her exciting journey ahead. We're delighted to welcome Miss P. Stutchbury, an experienced and highly recommended teacher, who will be teaching 3/4P until the end of the term. Let's give her a warm Eastwood family welcome.

New Build
I'm thrilled to share that the new build is progressing extremely well, and we expect our students to start using the new building in 2025. I recently had the privilege of walking through the internal space, and it is truly fantastic. The only thing missing was the sound of students laughing and learning!
The building is now water-tight, and new cabinetry is being installed. We’re excited to see it taking shape, and we’re confident it will provide an incredible learning environment for our children.
This new space will offer state-of-the-art facilities and create wonderful opportunities for our students. I’ve attached the latest update from the Department for you to see all the details and the progress we’ve made so far.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. Together, we’re building a bright future for our children.
Uniform
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who have ensured their children are wearing the school uniform. It’s truly wonderful to see a sea of blue on the playground each day. The uniform not only looks great but also instills a sense of pride and unity among our students.
While we still have a few students wearing sports caps and hats, overall, we are thrilled to see so many of our students proudly wearing the blue of Eastwood. Your efforts in maintaining this standard are greatly appreciated and contribute to the positive image of our school.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping our students wear their uniforms with pride.
We have so much to be proud of and celebrate at Eastwood Public School, and we love showcasing the incredible talents of our students. Our Eastwood Public School Facebook page is dedicated to celebrating these achievements. Here, you’ll find photos and descriptions highlighting various aspects of our school life, from classroom projects and sporting events to special occasions.
This page is a celebration site where we can all share in the successes and milestones of our students. Please note that it’s not intended for day-to-day communications or to disseminate notes and updates; its primary purpose is to highlight the wonderful achievements of our students.
Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community and for joining us in celebrating the amazing things happening at our school.
Please have a look:
Student’s Arrival and Departure Times
I wanted to share a concern regarding students arriving at school too early and being picked up quite late in the afternoons. For the safety and well-being of our students, we ask that they arrive no earlier than 8:40 am and are picked up no later than 3:10 pm.
In the mornings, there are no teachers on duty before 8:40 am, and without supervision, the safety of our students could be at risk. We certainly understand that things come up and sometimes parents may run late. If that happens, please give us a call so we can make arrangements or consider organising a friend to help out with pick-up.
We’ve noticed a few parents consistently arriving as late as 3:40 pm. To help with this, we offer a wonderful before and after school care service that ensures your child is safe and supervised during these times.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Let’s work together to keep our students safe and happy.
Thank you.

Reading Club 100 Reminder
This is a friendly reminder about our Reading Club 100 initiative at Eastwood Public School. We encourage students to read every night and fill in their home reading card. Once your child has completed 100 entries, they can choose a book prize, which will be presented at assembly.
Please remember to fill in only one entry per day and not multiple entries. This helps us maintain the integrity of the program and ensures that each student's progress is accurately tracked.
Thank you for your support in fostering a love of reading in our students!
School Fun Run
Hi Eastwood families,

Wellbeing Update
Kindergarten Matters - KF
Last week, as part of Reconciliation Week, KF took part in an incursion led by Dhinawan Yarn. We started with a smoking ceremony and then participated in a hands-on session exploring personally crafted items like the Didgeridoo, Coolamon, and clapping sticks. In class we've been exploring various Aboriginal art techniques and enjoying stories from the Dreaming.
Stage 1 Happenings - 1S
This semester 1S has enjoyed participating in the Kitchen Garden program on Friday mornings. 1S has found this a fun, hands-on learning program delivering enjoyable food education. 1S has also learnt to grow, harvest and prepare fresh, seasonal food. Last week, 1S made pizzas with fresh tomatoes and parsley from the school garden. The week before, 1S had a gardening and science lesson on compost.
Stage 2 Happenings - 4H
Our young scientists in 4H have been diving into the world of elasticity in Science. Each student was tasked with creating a toy that features at least one elastic component, followed by designing a catchy advertisement to showcase their creations. In English, we crafted space-themed posters. These posters open with a second-person narrative and include diagrams, subheadings, and fun fact boxes to make them engaging and informative. Additionally, 4H continues to develop their gymnastics skills, focusing on strengthening their leg and arm muscles as well as enhancing their flexibility. It’s been a busy and exciting time in our classroom!
Emma Li
Stage 3 Happenings - 5L
5L have been busy this semester working on their classroom art projects. We have explored Pixel Art, Wayne Thiebaud layered cakes, creating robots inspired from our English text 'Wild Robot' and still life jar sketching with an emphasis on shadows and shading.
Languages - Kinder Mandarin
In the last few weeks Kindergarten Mandarin students have been learning about fruits and their colours. Students have been busy practising the vocabulary through songs, flashcard games and chants. They have also enjoyed sharing their likes and dislikes of fruits using the sentence patterns learned.

Music
Festival of Instrumental Music (FOIM) Recorder Ensemble
Two weeks ago, the Recorder Ensemble attended a combined rehearsal for the Festival of Instrumental Music in the Marsden High School gym. Amongst close to 500 other recorder players, they practised their three pieces and refined tricky bits and committed more notes to memory. The performance at the Sydney Opera House is on the evening of Tuesday 25 June and each of the 26 students will need to know the music by heart!
Miss Hadfield and I were incredibly proud of their exemplary behaviour on the day, not to mention how far they’ve come and how quickly they’ve learnt the music. Thank you to the parents who let them practise at home…with or without earplugs. We are so looking forward to the concert, it is always a sensational event over four nights and we are lucky enough to have our very own Christopher from 6G performing in a trio on our night. Our string orchestra is also involved and we will all be playing the final piece together.
Tickets went on sale last week, if you require any more, the phone number for the box office at the Opera House (they are handling all of the tickets) is 9250 7777, open 9am-5pm or head to their website: www.sydneyoperahouse.com.
Mrs Hudson
Music Class Concerts
From Week 7, there will be opportunity for students in Years 2-6 who learn an instrument, to perform during their classroom Music lessons. Students are to bring any portable instruments such as flutes, violins and ‘cellos (they may be safely stored in the music room all day) and any music that they need. Piano and keyboard players may use the heavy weighted full-sized keyboard in the room.
The following timetable shows when each class has been allocated for their performance times. If there are too many performers for one lesson, they will have a chance the next week. We will do our best to make sure that everyone who wants to perform, has time to do so.
