Principal's Report
The term has certainly taken off at full speed! Students have returned energised, enthusiastic, and ready for another wonderful term of learning and growth.
As always, it’s been a busy start. We kicked off with our group and sports photos — the students looked fantastic in their smart uniforms and beaming smiles. These will no doubt make for some great mementos of another memorable year at Eastwood.
This week saw one of the highlights of our school calendar — the Year 6 Mini Fete. What a day it was! Our Year 6 students did an outstanding job ensuring fun was had by all. From baking cupcakes and mixing spiders (a definite crowd favourite!) to running games like ten-pin bowling, “Knock Down the Teacher’s Face,” Nerf targets, hoop throwing, and the ever-popular sponge throwing at teachers — the day was a huge success.
A big shout-out to all the teachers who were brave enough to put their faces on the line — although I must admit, some remained remarkably dry! We might need to schedule a few extra throwing practice sessions for next year.
Our Year 6 students truly embodied Eastwood’s You Can Do It keys throughout the event. They were organised, with every detail running seamlessly. They were resilient, overcoming challenges such as the last-minute change of date. They used their getting along skills to work collaboratively and encourage participation, showed persistence in attracting customers to their stalls, and demonstrated confidence through creative advertising and enthusiastic salesmanship.
We are immensely proud of our Year 6 students and all they achieved. To show our appreciation, they’ll be enjoying a well-deserved Pizza Party next week. A heartfelt thank you also goes to the Year 6 teachers, who put their heart and soul into the day — their dedication and hard work ensured the event’s success.
And that’s just the first two weeks! Coming up, we have the K–2 Athletics Carnival, where our youngest students will experience the excitement of competition and teamwork through games and activities. Students in Years 3–6 will be taking part in the Footsteps Dance Program, Year 5 students will begin their leadership journey, our talented musicians will be heading off to Band Camp, and we’ll soon be enjoying our K–2 Musical!
We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and passionate teachers at Eastwood Public School who provide our students with so many rich learning opportunities. I am indeed a very lucky principal!
Kindergarten Expo – Orientation Day
We are very excited to welcome all our new Kindergarten students for 2026 to Eastwood Public School next Tuesday for our Kindergarten Expo!
It’s set to be a wonderful morning filled with fun activities for our soon-to-be students and plenty of helpful information for our new parents. This special event marks the beginning of an exciting journey for our newest members of the Eastwood community.
We can’t wait to see all their smiling faces and share in the excitement as they take their first steps into “big school”!
World Teacher's Day
Next Friday, Eastwood Public School will proudly celebrate World Teachers’ Day — a special occasion dedicated to recognising the invaluable contributions of our wonderful educators.
Our teachers work tirelessly, often going above and beyond outside school hours to ensure every student receives the care, support, and guidance they need. Their unwavering commitment creates a nurturing and inspiring learning environment that shapes not only the minds, but also the hearts of our students.
A big thank you in advance to our P&C for generously providing a delicious lunch in appreciation of our staff. It will be a fantastic opportunity for teachers to relax, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company.
As we like to say, teaching is the only profession where you can feel both exhausted and energised at the same time — like a caffeinated hamster on a wheel! 🐹☕
So next Friday, and every day, we will celebrate our incredible teachers — the true backbone of our school community. Thank you once again to the P&C for their kindness and ongoing support, which will make this day all the more special for everyone at Eastwood Public School.
Shade Cloth
A huge thank you to the many members of our Eastwood community who have already reached out and provided the names of companies that install shade structures. Your support and suggestions are greatly appreciated, and we’ll be following up to explore these options further.
As mentioned previously, the cost of installing a shade cover over our fixed playground equipment is approximately $140,000 — a significant amount that the school does not have readily available. We’re continuing to look at ways this project might be made possible in the future, and we’d love to hear from anyone in our community who may be able to assist or guide us in this area.
This is an exciting project that would provide long-term benefits for our students, ensuring they can safely enjoy our playground all year round. We truly appreciate the community spirit and generosity that continue to make Eastwood Public School such a special place.

Kindergarten Happenings - KE
What a busy end to Term 3 and a fantastic start to Term 4 for Kindergarten!
Towards the end of Term 3, students had a wonderful time celebrating the Book Parade. It was an absolute delight to see so many creative costumes and excited faces as students proudly shared their favourite book characters with their peers and teachers. They also enjoyed exploring the new playground equipment in the senior area, playing safely and having lots of fun.
To kick off Term 4, Kindergarten students attended their first ever mini fete! They loved having their faces painted, enjoyed delicious ice-cream and crunchy popcorn, and playing a range of exciting games around the school. Afterwards, they reflected on their favourite parts of the day and wrote about their experiences during their writing lesson.

Stage 1 Happenings - 1S
This term, 1S has been very busy learning and taking part in a range of exciting school activities.
In English, the class explored stories about the Great Pacific Rubbish Patch and the issue of ocean pollution. After reading the entertaining story Jelly-Boy, students created their own jellyfish and wrote thoughtful pieces expressing their opinions on sea pollution, complete with creative illustrations.
In Mathematics, 1S enjoyed playing games to strengthen their understanding of concepts such as arrays and division.
A special highlight of the term was the always-popular Year 6 Mini-Fete, which the students thoroughly enjoyed.
There have been many awards presented already to recognise 1S students’ dedication and achievements.
It has been a wonderful start to the term, and 1S are looking forward to even more learning and fun in the weeks ahead!

Stage 2 Happenings - 4P
We’re all refreshed and excited to make the most of our final term in Year 4, and the students are already showing great enthusiasm and positivity for the term ahead.
Outdoor Adventures
Late last term, we were lucky enough to participate in an AFL clinic run by the Sydney Swans! We challenged ourselves to learn and practise passing and kicking an AFL ball using the correct technique. It was wonderful to see everyone’s competitive spirit and good sportsmanship in action.
We also enjoyed our first climb on the new playground equipment, which was a big hit with the class!
English Adventures
In English, we’ve been diving into the world of author’s perspective through the inspiring book The Little Refugee. Our class has been exploring how the author’s experiences shape the story, while sharpening our vocabulary skills to understand and describe the emotions it evokes. It’s been fantastic to see students making meaningful connections and sharing their thoughts.
Geographic Explorations
This term, we have begun a geography unit, exploring the connections that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with the land. We are relating these insights to our own connections with the natural and built environments in our local areas. The students are curious, engaged, and eager to discover new perspectives and ideas.
Footsteps Fun!
This week, 4P enthusiastically began our Footsteps dance program! We learned some dynamic moves and look forward to refining our routine over the coming weeks. Dance is a great way for us to work together, stay active, and have fun!
Celebrating Success
A huge congratulations to our Gold Award recipients! So far, four students have earned this special recognition for demonstrating the Eastwood Keys to Success—well done! We’re excited to celebrate even more achievements at the upcoming K–6 assembly.

Stage 3 Happenings - 5VH
What a wonderful year it has been for our class!
Our enthusiastic learners have continued to wow their teachers with their insightful questions and thoughtful reflections. After reading August and Jones, we enjoyed connecting literature with real life through an AFL clinic, just like August!
In science, students impressed everyone with their creativity and problem-solving skills, designing studio apartment models from cardboard and wiring them with switches and circuits to light them up.
Their confidence and creativity were also on full display during our recent class music concert with Mrs Foster.
The class have made a fantastic start to the term and should be commended for their positive attitude, kindness, and persistence with their learning, truly living out the You Can Do It! (YCDI) keys to success.

Mandarin Update
Kindergarten: Farm Animals
Students in Mandarin groups explored the theme of Farm Animals through singing, acting, rhymes, craft and fun reading and writing activities.
Pictured: KF Mandarin students enthusiastically help a puppy write correct Chinese characters on their small whiteboards and then peer check their teaching.

Year 1: What Did I See In the Jungle?
Year 1 students have been working on the topic of jungle animals through the story ‘What Did I See in the Jungle?’. Year 1 Beginners focused on speaking about animals and their colours, while Mandarin students practised reading and writing Chinese characters, using fun activities to visualise key components.
Pictured: 1C Mandarin students work cooperatively to build characters with component cards; Play Snakes and Ladders to read characters while locating them on a stencil to trace, copy and write. They were keen to reach the finish line on the Snakes and Ladders and complete a full line of a character on the stencil to win.

Year 2: What’s in My Bag (for holiday)?
Year 2 Mandarin students practised radicals and applied them to learn Chinese characters effectively. They learnt vocabulary of clothing and weather to express ideas. Pictured: Mandarin students in 2G engaged in an interactive challenge: How quickly can you line up with your card to form a meaningful sentence giving travel advice (e.g., what clothes to bring when visiting this country)? Students enthusiastically helped one another and self-corrected to win.

Years 3 and 4: Market Day
Stage 2 students have learnt language for Market Day later this term and are making culture-related crafts to ‘sell’.
3B, 3C Mandarin students and Year 4 Beginners students are creating blue-and-white porcelain plates and practising writing a message on a tag.

Years 5 and 6: Eating at a Restaurant
Stage 3 students learnt topic vocabulary and sentence structures through differentiated, interactive learning activities. In small groups, they’re creating menus, preparing dish cards, and getting ready to open their “restaurants” and serve customers. They’re aiming for the best menu and top “Google review” comments on a Google template card.
Pictured: students engaged in revising dish vocabulary in sentences with Bingo and strengthening literacy through a Barrier Game.

Year 6 Mini Fete
On the 21st of October, Year 6 hosted the annual EPS Mini Fete with food and games stalls such as spider drinks and ring toss. There were 2 sessions, one for K-2 and 3-5. Students purchased tokens for 50 cents each, using them to enjoy the games or to buy the delicious treats on offer.
Mini Fete is an event Year 6 hosts each year. They organise and plan stalls, cook and make the food such as cupcakes and jelly.
Students had an enjoyable time getting the opportunity to try out different food treats and games. The K-5 students had an excellent time at the Mini Fete as they were eating and playing with their friends.
The whole event was a success with the school raising $8000. The purpose of this event is to raise money for the Year 6 farewell.
Teachers also had a big impact on the Mini Fete as they contributed their time to help Year 6 students make their stalls, as well as organising the food and prizes. A huge thank you and shout out to the Year 6 teachers!
This was one of the most successful Year 6 Mini Fetes in Eastwood Public School's recent history! Maybe next year will be even better!

Sport - State PSSA Championships 2025
A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to Dora and Emily from year 5 who both competed in the State Athletics Championships at Sydney Olympic Park this week. Both girls were competing against athletes from all over NSW with 25-40 athletes in their events.
Dora jumped close to her PB in the Junior Girls Long Jump to finish in the top ½ of her field and only just missing out on qualifying for the final top 8.
Emily had a BIG day on Wednesday in extremely hot and very windy conditions competing in the 200m, Long Jump and Shot Put. On Thursday, she backed up for the 800m, 100m and discus.
Emily did extremely well to get on the podium finishing 3rd to win the bronze medal in NSW for the 11-13yrs Girls Long Jump Multi Class event.
Emily will now go on to compete in 4 events at the Australian School Sport Track and Field Championships in late November in Canberra. She has qualified for the Long Jump as well as the 100, 200 and Shot put where she finished in the top 3 11year olds in NSW for her events.
I was at the Championships as an athletics official and was impressed with how well the girls competed and conducted themselves.
Congratulations to both girls. Eastwood Public School is very proud of your commitment and achievements.
